In 2023, inspired by the remarkable philanthropic efforts of Vikings player Adam Thielen and his Thielen Foundation, Tim Husom embarked on a journey to make a positive impact on the community that shaped him and his brother, Tom. Growing up in Aberdeen, South Dakota, both Tim and Tom attended O.M. Tiffany Elementary School, Holgate Jr. High, and Central High School, graduating in the classes of ’88 and ’89 respectively.
With deep roots in Aberdeen, their parents, Bob and Pat Downie, along with Tom, continue to reside in the community. Meanwhile, Tim resides in the Los Angeles area, sharing his life with his daughter, Pony. Additionally, their oldest brother, Todd, and his wife Karen, as well as another set of parents, Fred and Pam Husom, are situated in Minnesota.
Motivated by their personal experiences and a desire to give back, Tim and Tom established the Husom Foundation. Inspired by the Thielen Foundation’s commitment to community service, they sought to create a platform that would enable them to make a lasting difference in the lives of those in their hometown.
The Husom Foundation serves as the embodiment of their gratitude and their shared vision for a better future. Guided by the belief that every individual deserves an opportunity to thrive, the foundation focuses on initiatives that directly benefit the children of Aberdeen. Their efforts encompass a wide range of endeavors, including educational scholarships, extracurricular activities, and support for youth development programs.
Beyond their immediate impact, Tim and Tom aspire to inspire others within the community to join them in their mission. By sharing their story and highlighting the importance of collective action, they hope to ignite a spark of compassion and generosity in the hearts of individuals, encouraging them to contribute their own resources and talents towards positive change.
The Husom Foundation stands as a testament to the power of hometown pride and the enduring bonds forged within a community. Tim and Tom’s dedication, combined with the support of their family and the inspiration they drew from the Thielen Foundation, serves as a driving force in their commitment to creating a brighter and more prosperous future for Aberdeen.
